Following a CFO lunch organized by Tailor Made Recruitment on the topic of “Intellectual Property: valuation and management”, one of their interim CFO relationships became more aware of the issues surrounding intellectual property. On the advice of Tailor Made Recruitment she was brought into contact with the IP partner (legal) as well as the valuation specialist within Tailor Made Consultancy.

The focus was on the commercial and IP due diligence process, by which the economic value and the intellectual property rights were determined carefully and, at the same time, a Value Roadmap was implemented. Ultimately the interim CFO had to make a choice to sell the intellectual property or to offer it to a third party under license. On the advice of our experts, the choice was partly made for the latter option. Furthermore, the interim CFO and his business were interested in moving the other intellectual properties within the group. In this way, optimal use was made of different (international) tax regimes.
